Guccify your own boots
I have been lusting after these Gucci boots ever since I clapped eyes on them in a magazine, knowing that even if I could afford them, they’d never fit either my feet or my legs:
I figured that it wouldn’t be too difficult to copy the fringing, so I bought a pair of boots from Evans that did fit, then bought some leather cord from a local indoor market and attached it onto the buckle.
It was really quick and easy to do. I bought 5m of cord, and cut it into lengths that were double the length from the buckle I wanted to attach it to to the ground (the Gucci fringing is really long and skims the floor). It worked out at exactly eight pieces, so four for each boot.

I then took each length, folded it in half, and attached it to the buckle by threading the two ends back through the loop and the centre:

Pull the ends tightly and it will make a secure fastening:

Add as many strands as you want:

Et voila:

I’m quite pleased with the result. I know it’s not Gucci, but it’s not a bad customisation for £3.75 for the leather cord and about 5 minutes work!
Using this method is much easier and more secure than trying to glue or sew on fringing, so choose boots that have a buckle, strap or other feature high up that you can use to tie your fringing to.

These pirate boots arrr beauties!
I just read about Magnus shoes via the Clothes For Tall Women blog. I had a quick scout about and found these fab (what can only be described as) ‘pirate’ boots, with three buckles and a cuff. Shame I didn’t discover them in time for Talk Like a Pirate Day last Friday!
Available in black and brown, they go up to UK size 11 and are available to pre-order for £139.95.
Brantano funky wellies up to size 10
Ever since I saw a pair of those funky, colourful wellies, I’ve wanted a pair, but I never thought I’d find my size. But I found not one, but two styles while browsing the Brantano website that are available up to UK size 10! Joy oh joy. After much deliberation, I decided to splash out (sorry) £20 on the white design, but I would have been equally happy with the black.
Barratts, up to size 11
I’m pleasantly surprised to discover that Barratts stock many of their styles up to UK size 9 on their website! I wonder if it’s just on the website or in store as well? Anyway, if it is just on the website, they accept returns in store.
They also do selected styles up to size 10 and 11 as well as wide fitting shoes.
These great low wedge T bar sandals are in their sale and are reduced from £28 to £20:
They’re available in white, black and tan up to UK size 9.
Find That Shoe, up to size 11
Find That Shoe sell women’s footwear up to UK size 11. I like these leather Victorian style ankle boots for £64.95:
Currently available in black and brown in UK size 9 and 10.
I heart these Converse, up to UK size 9
Amazon have recently started selling shoes, yay! And you can browse by size which is great.
I spotted these fab colourful heart Converse All Stars on there for £40, which I really want:
Totally shoes go up to UK size 11!
I’ve found a great shop called Totally who have a store in London (please open one in Birmingham!) as well as an online store. They go up to a UK size 11 and even do half sizes too. Their styles are bang up-to-date too. I think I’ll be taking a trip to their London store sooner or later. Actually I’m thinking of compiling a kind of directory of stores and sites that sell big sizes, because I think it will be really useful.
My favourites from the Totally online store are these bright red double strap T-bar shoes (also available in black for the not-so-brave!). They’re £89.99, which is slightly more than high street prices, but the company place importance on comfort so I think they’re well worth it:
Faith size 9s
I’m pleased to discover that Faith have a lot of the styles on their website available up to size 9.
Also, good news is that you can return shoes ordered online to one of their stores. I personally find this a lot more convenient than faffing about with postage and packing and Post Office queues and opening times. Faith’s returns policy states:
We can accept your return at a Faith branch. Please ensure you take a printed copy of your email order confirmation as it will be required to complete your return in store. If you do not have a copy of your order confirmation email, please email or telephone our Call Centre who will send you a copy of your order. We regret that postage and packing charges cannot be refunded unless an item is faulty.
My faves from their New In range are these T-bar ruffle shoes, possibly a bit high for me at over 3 inches, but they’re gorgeous non the less:
Welcome to Shoemungous!
Hi and welcome to Shoemungous! I have set up this blog because, like most laydeez, I lurve shoes! Problem is, I’m a UK size 9 and so I really struggle to find shoes I like that fit. Shoe shopping trips more often than not end in tears. Most shops only go up to a size 7 or 8. Things could be worse, I can often fit into a size 8 sandal at least and some brands size 8s are much bigger than others. For instance, quite a few of the Skechers styles fit me in a size 8.
There are a few places that do large sizes in Birmingham (where I live). In the city centre, there is Tall and Small (up to size 10) at Barratts, but they only do a few styles and they are very plain, not to my taste at all. There is also Evans (up to size 10 and wide fittings), where I end up getting most of my footwear at the moment. They do quite a wide range, but most of them aren’t really to my taste either. They are more fashionable than Tall and Small, but they’re still not bang up to date. For intance, I’ve been wanting some gladiator sandals for ages, they are everywhere, but none of the styles in Evans are even approaching the right idea. I love really high fashion brands such as Irregular Choice and Rocket Dog, but unfortunately they don’t fit
It does seems that casual style shoes, such as the canvas style boots that Rocket Dog do, are even harder to get hold of than more dressy styles. I think Brantano go up to a size 9, but the styles were a bit old fashioned last time I went.
There are quite a few online stores that cater for large sizes, but they tend to be a bit on the pricey side and the fact that I can’t try them on puts me off too.
So the point of this blog is help me and other large-foot afflicted girls uncover some sources we perhaps didn’t know about and ultimately, my dream would be to convince some of my existing fave brands to increase their size range. Let me know in the comments if you have any recommendations!
